SPF is part of your skincare routine and your anti-age serum will not work if you don’t protect your skin from the sun. UV rays are very harmful to your skin and cause skin aging. What is SPF?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. It means the degree to which a product protects you against UVB rays. This degree of protection is expressed in a number. Dermatologists usually recommend using a minimum of SPF 30, which blocks 97% of UVB rays. SPF 15 blocks 93% and SPF 50 blocks 98% of the UVB rays. The sun releases two types of rays: UVA and UVB. The first gets deep into the skin, while UVB gets shorter on the surface of the skin.

In addition, both UVA and UVB play a role in the development of skin cancer. So be careful.

It is important that you apply SPF to your face every day. But what is the best way to do that? “Your sunscreen should be applied after your moisturizer and before your foundation,” says Shirin. “Even if you are wearing makeup you still need to re-apply every two hours.”

It must be applied correctly to be effective, so make sure you use the right amount. “Sunscreen should be applied before you leave home in the morning all year round. Even on cloudy winter days, ”adds dermatologist Dr Qian Xu.

1. Oily skin

Amanda Von Dem Hagen, Lead Developer at Glo Skin Beauty, says an oil-free SPF is the solution. “Many sunscreens that offer a high SPF factor tend to be a lot thicker on the skin, leaving it feeling sticky and oily, and in turn promoting further skin issues such as blocked pores and blackheads,” she says.

2. Sensitive skin and pimples

If you suffer from sensitive skin with pimples, you naturally want as few irritating products as possible. Therefore, always look at the ingredients in the product. “There are two types of agents used in sunscreen: physical and chemical. Some of the chemical agents used in sunscreens cause irritation, ”says dermatologist Dr Daniel Glass. Therefore, make sure you keep it simple and buy products without perfume and oil.

3. Dry skin

Do you have dry skin? Then there are countless solutions with SPF. Serums and creams with SPF in them are becoming increasingly popular. Opt for a lightweight SPF which doubles as a moisturizing face cream [or serum]. This way you are protecting your skin, while also reaping other skincare benefits ”, says Amanda Von Dem Hagen. “You can opt for a dry oil SPF [but] a cream or lotion-based SPF is advisable, especially if you want the product to last all day.”
Remember, SPF is very important to your skin and you need to apply it every day. For best results, repeat this every two hours, even on cloudy days
